While some might say this is a small sacrifice to make in order to be healthy, I disagree. Saying goodbye to your favorite foods is not easy. And it’s definitely not a small compromise. I have to say giving up desserts is even harder.

No more holiday desserts? No more birthday cakes? No more sweet treats? That sounds terrible, am I right?

Fortunately, I know people don’t have to do that in order to eat healthy. All they have to do is to opt for real, whole ingredients, and to adjust their favorite recipes a little bit. Yes, this definitely applies to desserts, too.

Use real sweeteners.  Most healthy desserts are not delicious because they are not sweet enough. And people with a sweet tooth are able to tell the difference. Totally understandable. To make healthy desserts sweet, use natural sweeteners like raw honey or maple syrup instead of refined sugar. Also, use ripe fruits. Friends! I’m so excited to share my new favorite cookie with you just in time for the holidays. They’re so easy to make, ready in 20 minutesrequire no baking and just 5 ingredients, and they’re naturally sweetened! Let’s (not) bake!

The base for these cookies starts with creamy, salted peanut butter sweetened with maple syrup.

For gluten-free flour I used almond flour for its light texture, somewhat “cakey” flavor, and ability to absorb moisture without over-drying (like coconut flour can).
